Vote Kathy for charter review commissioner

Kathy Gill

Experience Counts.

A vote for Kathy Gill as your charter review commissioner (council district 3) is a vote for the future. (What the heck is a charter review commissioner? What county district do I live in?)

As your representative, I will attentively listen to your concerns as the Snohomish County Charter Commission seeks its every-10-years public input. I am running because I want to use my skills to continue making SnoCo a thriving, vibrant, diverse community where everyone’s voice is heard.

My promise to you:

True change begins at the local level; the charter provides a roadmap for the Snohomish County Council to follow as our leaders implement plans to keep neighborhoods – rural, urban, suburban — safe and prosperous.

I will ensure your voices are heard.

I am committed to helping shape a charter for the 21st century by

  • Addressing housing issues
  • Enhancing voter effectiveness
  • Exploring campaign finance reform
  • Limiting office holders to one position at a time
  • Promoting sustainable growth

How did I get from rural Georgia to suburban Seattle?

Although I’ve lived in Snohomish County since 2002 and Washington since 1989, get me talking and you’ll probably note the remnants of a southern accent courtesy of growing up in southwestern Georgia (peanuts and Jimmy Carter country).

After graduating from the University of Georgia with an undergrad degree in journalism, I went “north” to Virginia Tech for a master’s degree in agricultural economics. My next move was to yankee-land: suburban Philly, where I advocated for dairy farmers in Congress, managed communications for a dairy cooperative similar to Darigold and ran a leadership program for young farmers …

Get to know me, informally.

Leader and collaborator

As chair of the University of Washington External Relations Faculty Advisory Committee, I led faculty response to Sound Transit plans for LINK tunnels through the university campus. I successfully secured faculty Senate passage of official comment on the proposal, comment that was due during summer while the Senate is in hiatus.

As chair of the Washington State Motorcycle Safety Advisory Committee, I testified on behalf of the Committee as we successfully expanded the size of the legislatively-mandated board.

As a member of the Department of Ecology Water Resources Forum representing farmers under then secretary Christine Gregoire, I collaborated with interest groups (from tribes and recreational fishermen to the construction and farming industries) to develop two pilot programs to alleviate the backlog in DOE water rights permitting. The Forum then proposed legislation to enable DOE to move forward through the water rights permit backlog.
